IXOYE as well as the Christian Fish symbol are carved inth the body of this highly symbolic cross. IXOYE in Greek is pronounced Ichthys or fish in English. This is a symbol used by the very earily christians. Iota is the first letter of the word Isous which is  translated in Greek as Jesus, Chi is the first letter of the word Christos that means annointed, Theta is the first letter of word Theou meaning God's, Ypsilon is the first letter of the word Yios and is Greek for Son and Sigma is the first letter of the word Soter meaning Savior. All together the Greek letters for fish represent "Jesus Annointed God's Son Savior". Tradition has it that when a Christian met a stranger in the road, the Christian sometimes drew one arc of the simple fish outline in the dirt.
